Hi, I’ve just recently bought some firebellied newt eggs, the seller said that they are freshly laid but I was just wanting to check that they’re fertile, so does anyone know if these are fertile? Sorry that it’s not the best photo, Thanks x

Hard to tell from that photo but I think a couple are bad.

Thank you do you think I should separate them?x

Hi,
Out of the 5 on the photo, 2 look good (the brown ones) and the other bad.
Difficult to say when they were laid since firebelly newts don't lay their eggs all at the same time.

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing but I’ve never had eggs before and I was finding it hard to find info about fertile/infertile x

Also with eggs do you still change the water daily or is that just when they hatch?x

If you keep them in a small water volume, it's better to change the water from time, to time (every other day is enough).
If they are in a bigger volume (around 1 liter) with lots of plants, no need to change the water so often.

If you have only 5 eggs, the emergency will be to separate the presumably good eggs from the other since bad eggs end up molding and this fungus could reach the good eggs.

Hi thank you so much for the information, I’ve separated the brown ones from the other 3 so hopefully the good ones will stay good

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
