I got my tiger may last year he's still under substrate I'm concerned, do I have to much soil depth that's why he's not coming out or did I feed him too much last year soil depth is 6inches maybe bit higher in corners , plus hot temperatures might deter him from coming out, I have an iced water bottle inside tank too with lid on

maybe try gently excavating at this point...if he's been down there since last year, i'm concerned your little guy might either be dead or has escaped...

He's not dead he came up bout a month ago went in his water area for a day then went back under since

Maybe he just likes burrowing a lot? I don't know much about tiger salamanders.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
