Ice water plants (4°C-18°C)

Hi at all,
I want use some aquatics plants for my new aquarium (alpine newts)

In the first I was thinking about Sparganium angustifolium (but about impossible find in the hobby)

Now I am thinking too about Vallisneria spiralis, but in the web I saw thath it can live only from 14°C -28°C

Someone has experience with Vallisneria spiralis at lower temperatures (4°C) ?

Any native Italian pond plants would be perfect if you live near a pond you can easily get some. I have Sparganium angustifolium in my ponds but it gores very slowly without strong lighting when it is submerged.

4'C is a temperature in which even temperate climate plants are overwintering which means none will grow. Vallisneria prefers warmer water (for example in Poland it is invasive only in lakes which get warm water outflow from power plants)
Anyway, for coldwater aquarium the native European plants are best - Fontinalis antipyretica, Potamogeton (crispus, perfoliatus, lucens), Myriophyllum (verticilliatum, spicatum), Ceratophyllum demersum, Nymphoides peltata etc. Also Elodea canadensis should do well, but don't mistake it for Egeria densa which is sold at petshops. Elodea canadensis should be available in gardening stores with other plants for garden ponds.

All of my aquariums are under 16-18deg and hornwort grows like a weed!!!! Even in winter when tanks are 10-12deg I am constantly having to prune them...
