I know that the trout love to much on mayflies and other aquatic insects, so why not salamanders. I was thinking that they must have a large amount of energy inside them for a large fish to make the effort to eat them. Has anyone ever tried to feed mayflies to their newts? The Hendricksons hatch is over now, so I am going to do a little stream collecting and catch some E. subvaria(Hendrickson) nymphs and try them out with my C.O. Later in the year when the Hexagenia start hatching I am going to grab some of the adults and nymphs to try out. Around here we have H. limbata.

On a separate note, has anyone ever noted an interest in Asellus communis, Water slater, with regards to C.O. and adult T. marm?

Finally cranefly larva. Has anyone tried this as a potential food source? I found several in the rivers by my house and fed a small one to each of my marms with no adverse affects.

Anyone have any comments on any of the three?

ps. John I think you are some kind of pond-life buff. Can you help me out?
