When I bought them, there was 3 lime-green and 1 bluish/greenish/brownish. Now they are mostly dark brown, except from now and then - very seldom. I have read this i common but not WHY? It makes me both curious and worried (don´t they feel ok?). Somebody know?

C orientalist can change their color a bit but what you’re describing sounds a little extreme for orientalist. Can you post a couple pictures of them? They sound more like C. cyanurus.

Oh I’m sorry I thought you were talking about cynops orientalis, disregard what I said

This is how they looked when they came. The one on the stone is slightly blue-ish on his/her back (very seldom, mostly brownish dark green).

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
