Last night when I was cleaning Lucas's tank he jumped out of his tub (I had just removed the lid because I was ready to transfer him back.) He hit the ground pretty hard and seemed to lose the tip of his tail. He stayed in the corner of his tank with his face against the glass for a bit afterwards. Nothing looks broken and he ate about 30 minutes after the experience. This morning I noticed him swimming rapidly back and forth, bumping into his thermometer. Water parameters are good. Gills look good. Is it possible he's just being active or should I be concerned?

although you say water parameters are good what are they?
sounds like he is just having an active day time, the majority of time axolotls will display this type of behaviour at night time once everything is dark, during night time it is mostly exploring and hunting where as during the day it will be exploring and looking for somewhere to hide.
make sure he has plenty of dark hides/caves to go into during the day and that they are cleaned out regularly.
