My young Notophthalmus are growing up...

I started out with a broken striped newt. he lived to be about 8 and is missed, but your thread has kind of rekindled my interest in them.

I know there is probably nothing to update, but whatever happened to sneaky?

He's still sneaking around :D he's all grown up now and in with the rest of the adults.

I'm in the midst of a pretty depressing larvae die-off right now  of the hundreds that hatched and got transferred to rearing tubs, I've lost about 70% or so in the last two days. I also had about 60 tiger salamander larvae last night, but this morning I have four...

Could it be something with the water? Was there excess food that caused an ammonia spike? Those are the only things I can come up with from the top of my head

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
