So I have six ribbed newts. One of my leucistic newts appeared to have gotten his tail bit off by another newt. I do not know the exact time but I assume it was a few days ago. Some of the tail bone is exposed, but otherwise there is no bleeding and there's no exposed meat.
He is having trouble swimming in my tank, so I am going to put him in a shallow bucket with some epsom salt until it gets better. When should I expect his tail to heal? I assume it will take a few months. Should I also give him dusted earthworms for the extra calcium he'll need?

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
